I'm was investigated too

FORMER Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Mohd Khir Toyo came out with guns blazing yesterday as he shot down Pakatan Rakyat (PR) assemblymen for making a fuss over the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission's (MACC) investigations into possible malpractices involving State allocation funds.

"Why must they shout about the raids and investigations? Are they hiding anything? If they are not, then why should they make so much noise?" said Dr Khir, the State Opposition Leader.

State government leaders have been persistently asking for MACC investigations into his affairs.

Referring to MACC visiting the offices of Seri Kembangan assemblyman Ean Yong Hian Wah and Kampung Tunku assemblyman Lau Weng San yesterday, Dr Khir said the assemblymen should stop making a fuss as the MACC officers were only carrying out their duties.

"If they are innocent, they should just co-operate so that investigations can be conducted smoothly. Stop making so much noise," he said hinting at calls by PR leaders for the MACC to make public the status of investigations into claims that former Barisan Nasional leaders had spent their RM500,000 per assemblyman fund in the two months prior to the PR government taking over in March, 2008.

Meanwhile, the controversy-riddled Dr Khir was in the limelight again yesterday when he was suspended by the State Assembly. He had earlier been in the spotlight when Sekinchan Assemblyman Ng Swee Lim had publicly asked the MACC to investigate how he had managed to purchase a Bali-style mansion in Shah Alam,
Ng had claimed that the property was worth RM24 million.

Dr Khir had refuted the claim, maintaining that he had purchased the house worth RM3.5 million and two plots of land, with a bank loan from HSBC. He said he had spent a further RM500,000 to renovate the house and its roof.

He had also said that he welcomed a probe into the matter.

Dr Khir maintained that it had been routine for the MACC, then known as the Anti-Corruption Agency, to carry out investigations on him and exco members while he had been Menteri Besar.

"We had given our fullest co-operation. It is natural for the MACC to investigate whenever there are complaints. Why worry when you are clean?" he added.

Yesterday, MACC officers confiscated several items from state executive council member Ean Yong Hian Wah's office at the Selangor State Secretariat building.

Ean Yong had said that the MACC was targeting PR leaders, He wanted to know what had happened to the investigations on past BN assemblymen who had allegedly spent their annual allocation of RM500,000 within two months of 2008.

Note: Malaysiakini should check their facts first.
